Our Goals

Advocacy for Reopening: The group acts to ensure the decommissioned heritage pool is rehabilitated and reopened, rather than being forgotten or left in disrepair.
Funding Advocacy & Partnerships: FOMOPP has worked with the Central Goldfields Shire Council to help secure over $9 million in state and federal funding for the project.
Community Mobilization: The group acts as a representative voice for the community, organizing events like town-wide garage sales to raise awareness, build momentum, and fundraise for the pool's rejuvenation.
"Save Our Swimming Pool" group: They operate as a collective, encouraging community-wide participation to engage with the council and ensure the project remains a high priority.

We collaborated with Council on a survey to provide answers to the most frequently asked questions. The top five are listed below as well as four questions people surveyed added.

Top five FAQs

What is the Shire doing proactively to take us forward from here?
Why can’t an interim solution be found where we can use the octagonal wading pool and intermediate learn to swim pools?
When and why was the pool closed? Who made the decision and on what independent advice?
What does heritage listed mean? Also why is it relevant to getting our pools up and running?
Is the Shire still under contract for and paying for the running of the outdoor pool?
And if so, Why? And why is this money not being set aside to fund the repair or replacement?

Additional questions raised by the survey

In 2022 a council- spokesperson said:
"Council will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the total rebuild is carried out so that our community can look forward to using the complex for the next 80 years"

What has changed since then as nothing has really progressed positively since then?
What is being done to ensure Dunolly and Talbot’s pools don’t deteriorate to the point of closure as well?
How committed are the Council in supporting the repair, opening and ongoing maintenance of the pool?
Is it possible to get heritage listing removed from the 50m pool and retain the heritage buildings?

Council Meetings

The committee have ongoing bi-monthly meetings with Council to keep advocating for the pool and to get answers to questions we, and the community we represent, have asked. As well as progress on completed works and plans and funding for works yet to be done.

We have regular meetings with Martha Haylett, Anne Webster and other politicians who we feel are positioned to help get our pool opened and advocating for funding from all levels of government.
